Tauranga City Council - Urban Design Action and Investment Plan
Independent Contractor, 2023 - 2024
This project commenced with a review of Tauranga City Council’s existing urban design documents, where I documented which documents referenced urban design and identified what gaps or opportunities remained to further address or promote urban design in Tauranga. This 'gap analysis' was key in informing the Urban Design Action and Investment Plan (UD AIP) process. Once the UD AIP process commenced, I led a series of workshops with various stakeholders to understand the challenges, solutions and aspirations associated with urban design in Tauranga. These sessions identified key challenges facing Tauranga over the next decade and explored how urban design could play a role in addressing these issues. The insights from research and consultation led to the development of the UD AIP, clarifying the role of urban design in Tauranga, outlining where Council is now in terms of promoting quality urban design outcomes, and detailing where Tauranga wants to be – as communicated through a series of actions and measures of success.
The UD AIP was adopted in 2024 and is currently informing Council workstreams.
