In 2024, I contributed to the early stages of Proposed Plan Change 38 – Business Land Framework, by leading the urban design workstream. This work involved extensive review of existing provisions, research into national and international best practice in terms of business land policy and extensive site visits to understand the impact of current and previous planning frameworks in terms of built, on the ground outcomes. This initial research phase led into the preparation of a Section 35 urban design analysis – evaluating the ability of current provisions to achieve stated objectives. This report also started to outline ways in which urban design can be better integrated into these chapters of the city plan to promote quality urban design outcomes in Tauranga.
