Urban Design Reviews
Beca, 2016-2021
Whilst at Beca, I provided urban design review support for Waipa District Council, assisting with pre-application and resource consenting processes, often remotely. I also delivered peer review services for Tauranga City Council, evaluating urban design assessments in resource consent applications against statutory and non-statutory documents, including the Tauranga Residential Outcomes Framework, and best practice standards. Projects ranged from small residential developments to multi-unit housing, retirement villages, and commercial buildings, ensuring designs adhered to local rules and guidelines.
Participating in urban design reviews has been especially fulfilling, as it allows me to offer valuable input during the early design stages. I’ve seen how thoughtful recommendations can lead to improved proposals that create safer, more attractive environments, respecting the character and context of an area.
